The Voice in the Corn Maze

Okay, so apparently we are going back into the corn today. No scarecrows, though. We have had enough of those.

I actually love corn mazes. During the day.

At night, I'm not so sure.

You're in one with your friends because it's October and this seemed like a fun idea when everyone was standing outside eating snacks and drinking apple cider.

Then somehow you get separated.

Of course you do.

You aren't really worried at first because you can still hear everyone laughing somewhere ahead of you.

So you follow them.

The corn is way over your head, and you can't see anything except what your flashlight catches. Every turn looks exactly like the last one, and you're starting to wonder if you have been walking in circles.

Then someone behind you says your name.

You stop.

Because you know that voice.

It's your best friend.

Except you can still hear your best friend laughing with everyone else somewhere ahead of you.

Then the voice behind you says,

"Don't go that way. That's not us."

Nope.

Absolutely freaking not.

Before you can decide what to do, the laughing ahead of you stops.

Everything gets quiet.

You turn around, and there is someone at the other end of the path.

At least you think they're standing there.

Then you notice their feet aren't touching the ground.

So now what?

Which one was actually your friend?

What has been leading you farther into the maze?

And what the hell is standing behind you?

Then the corn beside you starts moving.

Something whispers your name.

Yeah, I'm done.

Your turn.

Have fun with this one, and maybe just go pick a pumpkin instead. 🎃
