A little about me.

I’m a writer who, for now, still keeps a day job—though there have been many of those. I’ve moved from selling fine jewelry to shoveling asphalt on quiet highways in the middle of nowhere, gathering stories along the way.

I’m based in the farmlands of the Midwest. While I’ve lived in more populated places, I find myself drawn to the quiet—the kind that leaves room for thought, for imagination, for words to take shape.

This year, I began writing my first young adult dystopian novel and have recently entered my first round of edits. I was introduced to young adult literature in college, and it never really let me go.

I’ve been writing poetry and short stories since high school and later earned a degree in Creative Writing. Poetry has always been my mistress—restless, demanding, and impossible to ignore—while short stories and I have settled into a long, steady marriage I deeply cherish.

I love every part of the creative process, even when it resists me. Writing isn’t easy work—it asks for patience, discipline, and honesty—but there is a kind of magic in it too. In the mind, play can become something vast: entire worlds, waiting to be discovered.

I’m especially drawn to themes of mental health and social justice, both as a reader and a writer. Through my work, I hope to keep learning—and to offer something meaningful in return.

Thank you for being here. Truly.

All opinions and advice I share are my own, shaped by my experiences.

Wishing you the very best,
C.H. Schoen
