Friday Visual Prompt

Yep. I’d keep the same image across your blog, Substack, and socials. It makes the Friday prompt recognizable, and you don’t need to create five versions of the same thing. I’d let the caption change slightly by platform only when you need a shorter version.

For this one, I’d make it feel less like a polished “writing exercise” and more like you handing someone a creepy image and saying, okay, what the hell happened here? 😏

It’s Friday, which means I’m bringing back something I’ve missed—visual writing prompts.

There’s something about starting with an image instead of a blank page that makes my brain go places it probably shouldn’t. And this one?

Yeah. I don’t trust that house.

There’s a key.

There’s a note telling you that some things aren’t meant to be found.

And somewhere out there is a house with the lights still on.

So obviously we’re going to investigate. Because apparently we have learned absolutely nothing from horror movies.

Your prompt: What’s waiting?

Who left the note? What does the key open? Why is that light still burning in the house—and what happens when you realize you’ve been there before?

Take it wherever you want. Thriller. Horror. Mystery. Weird little story that refuses to fit neatly into a genre. There are no rules here.

Write 100 words. Write 1,000. Write one creepy sentence and call it a victory.
